## What Learnex Is

Learnex is an AI-powered study platform built for students. A student uploads their own course material — lecture slides, textbook PDFs, scanned handwritten notes, or images — and Learnex automatically generates a personalized learning path from that material:

- **Topic explanations** — AI-generated, source-grounded explanations broken down topic by topic from the uploaded material.
- **Quizzes** — practice quizzes per topic with mastery tracking, drawing from a growing question bank rather than regenerating from scratch on every retake.
- **Flashcards** — per-topic flashcard sets generated from the same source material.
- **Full-Subject Notes** — a comprehensive reference document synthesized from everything uploaded for a subject, not just studied topics.
- **AI Video & Audio Lessons** — short narrated lessons per topic. Free-tier users get audio-only lessons (AI narration over the topic content); Explorer and Master tier users get full animated video lessons.
- **Final Subject Quiz** — once every topic in a subject reaches mastery, a comprehensive final quiz (15+ questions) becomes available covering the whole subject.

Every generated study aid traces back to the specific material the student uploaded — Learnex does not generate generic, ungrounded content.

## How It Works

1. **Upload** — The student uploads PDFs, images of lecture slides, or scanned handwritten notes for a subject.
2. **Processing** — Learnex uses AI vision and language models to extract, structure, and understand the uploaded material.
3. **Study path generation** — Learnex automatically identifies topics, generates topic-by-topic explanations, creates quizzes, flashcards, and short video/audio lessons — all grounded in the student's own uploaded material.
4. **Mastery tracking** — As the student completes quizzes, Learnex tracks mastery per topic and surfaces weaker areas.
5. **Final quiz** — Once every topic reaches mastery, a comprehensive final quiz is unlocked for the whole subject.

## Technology

Learnex is built with React/Vite on the frontend, Node.js/Express on the backend, Supabase for authentication and database (Postgres), Cloudflare R2 for file storage, and a mix of AI providers (used for vision-based material extraction, text/quiz/explanation generation, and voice narration) for its generation pipeline. Video rendering uses Remotion.

## Privacy & Data

Learnex collects: Google account information (name, email, profile picture) for sign-in; uploaded course material, used solely to generate that student's own study content; usage data (quiz results, mastery progress); and, for paid subscribers, billing information handled entirely by Polar (Learnex never receives full card details).

## Terms Summary

Users must be 13 or older (or have parental consent if under 18). Uploaded content remains the user's own; Learnex is granted a limited license to process it solely to generate that user's study content.
